Get these three lines and the rest explains itself:
IRC is a room, not a website โ the bot is a vending machine standing in that room. Thatโs why thereโs no search box on it: you search on an outside site (xdcc.eu) to learn which room, which machine, which slot number.
You have to be standing in the room. Join the channel first, or the machine canโt see you and just says nothing.
One line buys one slot. /msg BotName xdcc send #123 means โmachine, hand me slot 123โ โ it passes the file straight to you, no middleman. Busy? You get a ticket number and wait. Your clientโs transfer window is your progress bar, and it picks up where it left off if the line drops.
The four moves
Get a client. HexChat (free, Windows/Mac/Linux) or mIRC (the old faithful).
Find the file on xdcc.eu / SkullXDCC / xdcc.info. Write down the four things every result gives you: network ยท channel ยท bot name ยท pack number.
Connect to that network, then JOIN THAT CHANNEL. /join #channelname
Send the bot one line, then accept the transfer when it pops up:

The four things that go wrong, and what they mean

How XDCC works โ no torrent, no swarm, no seeders, no ratio. A bot sits in an IRC channel holding numbered files called packs. You send it one line, it opens a direct connection to your machine and pushes the file down. The speed comes from that one server rather than from how many people happen to be sharing, and nothing gets uploaded back out of you. Take it and leave.
