> BitTorrent DHT search engine which analyses the DHT network in the real-time and provides full-text search over active torrents!

# Overview

[BTDigg](http://btdigg.org/) is the BitTorrent DHT search engine.
[BitTorrent](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_%28protocol%29) is a file sharing protocol,
[DHT](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distributed_hash_table) is a protocol for searching nodes which distribute a torrent.
[Torrent](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torrent_file) is a protocol for searching nodes which distribute a torrent.

BTDigg’s database is formed by DHT users.
BTDigg participates in the DHT network and [follows the DHT protocol specification](https://en.btdig.com/about/tech.html#DHT-network).
The project name is an acronym of BitTorrent Digger (digger means a treasure hunter).

BTDigg is not a [tracker](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_tracker) and doesn’t store any content and only collects
torrent metadata (such as file names and file sizes) and a [magnet link](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnet_link) (torrent identifier).
This means BTDigg is the entirely legal system.
In addition to legality, BTDigg has two important properties: unicity and decentralization.
Unicity means that BTDigg is the first system of its kind and there is nothing analogues yet.
Decentralization of BTDigg provides the opportunity to search in the entire “torrent” space
inside and outside of trackers (except private trackers).

It is worth mentioning that BTDigg returns a result as a [magnet link](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnet_link).
You need to install any BitTorrent client to download content (similarly you need to install browser to see HTML pages).

For now, there are a lot of [BitTorrent clients](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_BitTorrent_clients)
For example, there are free [qBittorrent](https://en.btdig.com/about/href=) and proprietary [qBittorrent](http://www.utorrent.com/intl/en/downloads) clients.

Additionally BTDigg provides:

- [Ratings](https://en.btdig.com/about/ratings.html)
- [Plugins](https://en.btdig.com/about/plugins.html)
- Search API ([by request](https://en.btdig.com/contacts))
