# How To Self Host Your Cloud Storage

This sounds like an oxymoron, but you can self-host your cloud storage.

**Use Case:**

- Automatically upload photos (and remove them to free up storage on your phone).
- Access your files 24/7, regardless of location.
- Secure your files and privacy without exposing them to 3rd parties like Dropbox, Google Drive, or iCloud.

**Here’s how:**

> Installation Steps:
> 
> 1. Install NextCloud - This is the Docker app that will host your files.
> 2. Install Tailscale - This Docker app provides peer-to-peer VPN using Wireguard.
> 3. Install the NextCloud and Tailscale app on your mobile device.
> 4. Sign on to Tailscale.
> 5. Connect the NextCloud app to your Tailscale device hosting the NextCloud Docker instance.
> 
> Optional:
> 
> - Setup NextCloud app on your phone to automatically upload photos.
> - Set up shares in the NextCloud Docker App.
> 
> That’s it. After completing all of these, you should have access to all your contents in your NextCloud Docker instance.
