**Summary:** 1. **Teardown Insights** iFixit conducted a teardown of the **Meta Quest 3S** , uncovering that it contains several components from the older **Quest 2** , including Fresnel lenses and an IPD adjustment mechanism, which are fully compatible with the earlier model. 2. **Shared LCD Panel** The **Quest 3S** utilizes a single **LCD panel** like the Quest 2, in contrast to the Quest 3, which features two separate panels for each eye. This design choice highlights the budget-friendly nature of the Quest 3S. 3. **Improved Depth Mapping** Despite using some older parts, the 3S includes two **IR sensors** for depth mapping, enhancing performance in low-light conditions compared to the single depth sensor used in the Quest 3. 4. **Hardware Specifications** Both the Quest 3S and Quest 3 are powered by the **Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2** SoC, ensuring that users enjoy similar processing capabilities. 5. **Pricing and Availability** Priced at **$299.99** , the Quest 3S is significantly cheaper than the Quest 3, which retails for **$499.99**. The teardown suggests that replacement parts may be more accessible due to the established market for Quest 2 components. **Read more at:** [The Verge](https://www.theverge.com/2024/10/19/24274330/meta-quest-3s-teardown-quest-2-lenses-lcd-panel)
