**Learning is a loop, not a chatbot.** 🎓

A model answering your question is one turn of the loop. Everything that makes it _stick_ lives in the other five turns — and every one of them has a free tool:

```auto
read → understand → recall
 ↓ ↓
see it ← correct ← practice
 ↺ repeat
```

**1 · 📚 read it —** [OpenStax](https://openstax.org) (peer-reviewed textbooks, free forever) · [MIT OpenCourseWare](https://ocw.mit.edu) (whole courses incl. exams) · [LibreTexts](https://libretexts.org) (community library, 100+ subjects) · [Saylor](https://www.saylor.org) (free, self-paced, transferable credit).

**2 · 🧠 understand it —** [DeepTutor](https://github.com/HKUDS/DeepTutor) 42.7k★ keeps a record of what you failed and builds the next lesson around that gap · [Mr. Ranedeer](https://github.com/JushBJJ/Mr.-Ranedeer-AI-Tutor) 29.5k★ turns any chat model into a tutor with a depth dial · [Open Notebook](https://github.com/lfnovo/open-notebook) 40.6k★ makes a course out of _your_ PDFs and recordings.

**3 · 📇 recall it —** [Anki](https://apps.ankiweb.net) 32.3k★ plus [FSRS](https://github.com/open-spaced-repetition/free-spaced-repetition-scheduler) 729★, the scheduler that models your memory instead of guessing · [Mnemosyne](https://github.com/mnemosyne-proj/mnemosyne) 604★ if you want the same idea, no account.

**4 · 🧑‍🏫 get corrected —** [Exercism](https://exercism.org) (coding tasks with real human mentors, free) · [Tatoeba](https://tatoeba.org) (sentence corpus with corrections) — the step everyone skips and the only one that fixes a wrong habit.

**5 · 🔬 see it —** [PhET](https://phet.colorado.edu) (drag physics and chemistry) · [GeoGebra](https://www.geogebra.org) · [Desmos](https://www.desmos.com) (graph it live) · [Falstad](https://www.falstad.com/circuit/) (circuits you can poke).

**6 · ↺ repeat, offline —** [Ollama](https://ollama.com) 184.8k★ runs the whole quiet layer on your laptop: no login, no upload, nothing leaving the disk.

> **What changes after a month**

> **The kick:** after a month of the loop, your _own_ mistakes become the syllabus. The AI stops being a tutor and becomes a coach that only appears when your memory is about to fail.

📌 Tonight: five cards in Anki, one chapter from OpenStax, one question to a tutor. That is the loop, running.

Turn the loop into a short daily routine by picking one chapter, one set of five flashcards, and one practice question to finish each evening. After reading, write the main idea in your own words before checking the AI explanation, so you notice gaps instead of just recognizing the answer. Then use spaced repetition for the cards you missed, and review them again the next day rather than adding many new cards at once. For correction, submit one small exercise or sentence for feedback and rewrite the corrected version immediately, because the rewrite is what fixes the habit. Finally, end the week by retesting yourself without notes on the same five topics, and let only the topics you missed set next week’s study list.

@Grace2077 dropped the wrong resource set by mistake — it is fixed now, please check the updated post. 🙏

This is a nice way to frame it. I always skip the get corrected step too, then wonder why the same mistake keeps coming back. The small daily version Grace2077 mentioned feels doable — one chapter, a few cards, one question — instead of trying to rebuild my whole study routine at once. I might try keeping my own mistakes as the syllabus for a week and see what actually sticks.
