**Summary:**

1. **Funding Concerns** : OW2, a non-profit open-source consortium, has requested the European Commission to maintain funding for free software, highlighting the absence of Next Generation Internet (NGI) programs in the 2025 Horizon Europe funding plans.

2. **Impact on Innovation** : The letter emphasizes that cutting NGI funding could weaken Europe’s tech ecosystem, leaving many projects under-resourced and affecting Europe’s global digital standing.

3. **Proven Efficiency** : NGI programs have supported over 500 projects, fostering innovation and maintaining Europe’s technological sovereignty. OW2 stresses the importance of continuing this support to uphold Europe’s leadership in digital innovation.
