![Their app: show your ID, can freeze you, +$15 fee — your own wallet: none of it, and the cheap network makes the fee 2 cents](https://onehack.st/uploads/default/original/3X/3/8/38b1c61f9a243033cc44fe93ca401125f5a57f13.jpeg)

### 🔑 No ID & no freezes — you hold the keys · 💸 no crazy fees — you pick the cheap network

Two walls hit everyone new to crypto: an app that suddenly demands your **ID** (and can freeze or ban you), and a **small send that costs a fortune in fees.** Both come from the same simple causes — and both have easy fixes. It’s all sorted into sections below — **open only what you need.** 👇

```auto
═══════════ 📑 WHAT'S INSIDE ═══════════
  ▸ ⚡ THE 30-SECOND ANSWER — just do this
  ▸ 🧠 UNDERSTAND IT — wallet · seed · gas, plain words
  ▸ 🧰 THE TRICKS — kill the fees, convert without pain
  ▸ ⚖️ THE HONEST TRUTH — anonymity · freezes · cashing out
═══════════════════════════════════════════
```

## ⚡ The 30-second answer

An app demands your ID and can freeze you for one reason: **it holds your coins.** Hold your **own** keys instead — a _self-custody_ wallet — and there’s no one to ask for ID and no one who can freeze you. Free, unlimited, from anyone worldwide.

- 🥇 **[Unstoppable](https://unstoppable.money/)** — open-source _and_ holds all your coins → the one to grab
- 🥈 **[Trust Wallet](https://trustwallet.com/)** — biggest + easiest · 🔒 **[Cake Wallet](https://cakewallet.com/)** — most private
- 🔑 **Trust it by logic, not reviews** — non-custodial + open-source, and you can verify it at [WalletScrutiny](https://walletscrutiny.com) _(only ~200 of 3,000 pass)._
- 🟢 **Do it:** install → tap **Receive** → share your address. That’s the whole thing.
- 💸 **Keep fees tiny:** when you send USDT, pick **BNB Chain** or **TRON** — a $15 fee becomes **~2¢** _(how → 🧰 The Tricks)._

> **🧠 UNDERSTAND IT — wallet · seed · gas, in plain words**
>
> - **A wallet isn’t a bank.** Your coins live on the **blockchain** (a public record thousands of computers keep). The app is just a **keyring** holding _your key_ to them.
> - **Your address** = an email for money — people send straight to it.
> - **Your 12-word “seed phrase”** = the master backup. Write it on **paper** ; restore on any phone with it. Lose it _and_ your phone = gone forever, no reset ([do it right](https://world.org/learncenter/digital-crypto-assets/what-is-a-seed-phrase)).
> - **The middleman is nobody — you are.** That’s the freedom _and_ the responsibility (keep the backup).
> - **Why the app asked for your ID:** anything that **holds your coins for you** (Binance, Coinbase, most exchanges) is legally a middleman — it _must_ collect your ID and _can_ freeze you. A self-custody wallet holds nothing of yours, so it can’t.
> - **What “gas” is:** the toll the blockchain **network** charges to process a send — the wallet itself is [$0](https://www.kraken.com/learn/what-is-a-blockchain-gas-fee). That toll swings wildly by network → the next section.

> **🧰 THE TRICKS — kill the fees & convert without the pain**
>
> **Why $5 cost $20 — and the one-tap fix.** The same coin travels different “roads” (networks); the tolls are wildly different:
>
> | send USDT / USDC on… | typical toll | |
> | --- | --- | --- |
> | 🛑 Ethereum (ERC-20) | **$3–15** | never for small sends |
> | ✅ BNB Chain (BEP-20) | **~2¢** | the cheap default |
> | ✅ TRON (TRC-20) | ~$0.20–1 | cheap + popular |
> | 🪙 LTC · TRX · BNB coins | ~1¢ | near-free |
>
> 👉 Your wallet lets you **pick the network** when sending — choose **BNB Chain / TRON**. Check live first → [ETH gas](https://etherscan.io/gastracker) · [BTC fee](https://mempool.space/) · [compare](https://www.acechange.io/tools/usdt-usdc-network-comparison/) · [calculator](https://www.spark.money/tools/stablecoin-fee-calculator).
>
> **“It won’t even let me send my USDT!”** — you need a little of that road’s **native coin** for the toll (ETH · BNB · TRX) ([why](https://support.blockchain.com/hc/en-us/articles/360027492092-Why-do-I-need-the-native-token-of-each-network-to-complete-my-transactions)). A greyed-out “insufficient funds” = _no gas coin_, not _no USDT_ ([fix](https://support.metamask.io/configure/transactions/how-to-fix-insufficient-funds-error-or-greyed-out-confirm-button/)).
>
> - 🟢 Easiest: some wallets let you **pay the toll in USDT itself** ([MetaMask “Gas Included”](https://support.metamask.io/manage-crypto/transactions/metamask-gas-station/)).
> - 🟢 Or keep a couple dollars of the native coin; on TRON, [rent “Energy”](https://blog.tronsave.io/how-much-does-it-cost-to-send-usdt-trc20/) → a USDT send drops to ~$0.40.
>
> **Converting is a pain? Swap it yourself — no account, no KYC:** [THORChain](https://swap.thorchain.org/) · [ChangeNOW](https://changenow.io/) · [StealthEX](https://stealthex.io/) — paste-and-swap across coins/networks.

> **⚖️ THE HONEST TRUTH — so nothing ever surprises you**
>
> - **Not anonymous.** Public chains are traceable — self-custody kills KYC/bans, not tracing. Real privacy = [Monero](https://www.privacyguides.org/en/cryptocurrency/).
> - **USDT & USDC can be frozen** by the issuer even in your own wallet (Tether has frozen **$3.3B** ) — only native **BTC · ETH · LTC · TRX** can’t be ([proof](https://blocksec.com/blog/usdt-freeze-stablecoin-compliance-guide)).
> - **Cashing out to a bank still needs a KYC exchange** — [there’s no clean anonymous cash-out](https://www.btcc.com/en-US/academy/crypto-wiki/crypto-glossary/how-to-cash-out-crypto-safely-a-beginners-guide). The honest ceiling.
> - **Why people stick with the big exchanges:** convenience. Smartest move → **use both:** an exchange to buy/cash-out, a self-custody wallet to hold + receive privately.

_Own it, don’t rent it — hold your own keys, pick the cheap road, and crypto stops being scary._

**Looking for a “Binance alternative”? It all comes down to ONE thing.** 👇

🏦 **Binance — and every exchange — holds your coins for you.** That _single fact_ is the root of every problem:
├─ 🪪 so it **must** take your ID
├─ 📋 so it can **demand the sender’s details**
├─ 🧊 so it can **freeze or ban** you anytime
└─ ⛓ so it sits **between you and your own money**

🔑 **A self-custody wallet holds nothing of yours — you keep the keys.** Pull out that root cause and _every_ branch above vanishes: no ID, no questions, no freeze, no ban. Ever.

**Why these 3 wallets and not the other 500?** Not reviews (those are fakeable) — **logic:** each is non-custodial **+** open-source **+** independently verified on [WalletScrutiny](https://walletscrutiny.com) _(only ~200 of 3,000 pass)._ Trust you can _check_, not a rating you have to believe.

**On fees, no sugar-coating:** no wallet has secret low fees — on-chain _everyone_ pays the network’s toll, Binance included. The only real lever is the chain you send on: **BNB / TRON ≈ 2¢** , not $15 _(see 🧰 The Tricks above)._

Binance is convenient, but it _owns_ your access. This is freedom you actually control — and honestly? **Use both.**

The problem is not when you already own the coins, it is when when you want to buy using FiAT currency (USD) etc, that’s where they violently tear your feathers off 😀
