**Fable’s on a timer — your work doesn’t have to be.** Rip out everything it builds and run it on a cheaper AI after it’s gone. 🎯

```auto
save ▸ make it model-proof ▸ feed it right ▸ keep it forever
```

Free tools, sorted below. Total newbie or pro — it all copy-pastes. 👇

> **😈 The 'ohh shit, I could use this' list — 5 real jobs this cracks open**
>
> - That 300-file repo you’re scared to touch → dump it all in, get a map + bug list + fix plan in one go, then let a free model do the grunt edits.
> - Screenshot of any app you like → working code. Save the chat, rebuild it later on the cheap model.
> - 40 PDFs (contracts, papers, whatever) cross-checked in one pass — a weekend’s work, done before lunch.
> - Build your prompt packs + templates **now** while the smart brain’s free — keep using them forever on a cheaper one.
> - Old project stuck on a dead framework → migrated in one shot, the exact job weak AIs hallucinate through.

> **💾 Yank every chat out as a file before access dies — 4 one-click exporters**
>
> - [claude-chat-exporter](https://github.com/agarwalvishal/claude-chat-exporter) — paste one script, clean file out. Keeps tables + code.
> - [Claude-Conversation-Exporter](https://github.com/socketteer/Claude-Conversation-Exporter) — Chrome add-on, ALL chats → one zip, remembers the model.
> - [claude-project-conversations-exporter](https://github.com/withLinda/claude-project-conversations-exporter) — a whole Project in one shot.
> - [claude-conversation-extractor](https://github.com/ZeroSumQuant/claude-conversation-extractor) — rips Claude Code’s hidden terminal logs.
>
> > Saved work can’t expire. Do this first.

> **🧬 Make it outlive Fable — run the same prompts on any cheaper AI**
>
> - [llm](https://github.com/simonw/llm) — runs any AI + auto-saves every prompt & answer to a file on your PC. [[docs]](https://llm.datasette.io)
> - [llm-anthropic](https://github.com/simonw/llm-anthropic) — one-line add-on to point it at Claude.
> - [Datasette](https://datasette.io) — turns that saved file into a searchable archive.
> - [LiteLLM](https://github.com/BerriAI/litellm) — one doorway to 100+ models, swap without recoding.
> - [OpenRouter](https://openrouter.ai) — one key, 300+ models, auto-fallback if one’s down.
> - Swap to _what?_ → [the honest ranked list](https://insiderllm.com/guides/best-local-coding-models-2026/) (Qwen / DeepSeek / GLM lead).

> **📦 Feed the 1M-token brain right — a whole repo in one file**
>
> - [repomix](https://github.com/yamadashy/repomix) — packs your codebase into one AI-ready file; `--compress` cuts ~70%.
> - [gitingest](https://github.com/cyclotruc/gitingest) — any GitHub link → swap “hub” → “ingest” → instant paste-ready text.

> **📐 Build one test now, judge every model later**
>
> - [promptfoo](https://github.com/promptfoo/promptfoo) — pass/fail checks across any model, side by side.
> - [deepeval](https://github.com/confident-ai/deepeval) — built to help you “switch to a cheaper model with confidence.”

> **🏠 Where the saved work keeps running — homes you own**
>
> - [LibreChat](https://github.com/danny-avila/LibreChat) — ChatGPT look, but yours; swap models mid-chat, fork, render code. MIT.
> - [Open WebUI](https://github.com/open-webui/open-webui) — drop PDFs in, ask them questions, all private/local.

> **🎯 What to actually burn the days on + the 90%-cheaper trick**
>
> Spend Fable on what weak AI chokes on:
>
> - messy repo → “map it, find bugs, plan the fix”
> - one-shot heavy lifts: big refactor, framework migration, 40-page doc
> - screenshot/design → code
> - reusable prompt packs, templates, a knowledge base

>
> 💸 Same big files over and over? Turn on **prompt caching** — load context once, ~90% cheaper input. [[recipe]](https://github.com/anthropics/claude-cookbooks)

> **🧾 A dev already pulled this exact move — $149, real release, receipts**
>
> Simon Willison shipped a real **sqlite-utils** release _mostly written by Fable for ~$149_, in his last few access days — full writeup on [his blog](https://simonwillison.net) (the July 5 sqlite-utils post). Best free playbook there is.

> **🔨 The one-button tool nobody's shipped (all the parts are right here)**
>
> No tool auto-does “save Fable’s work → swap to a cheap model → prove it still runs.” But the parts exist: [llm](https://github.com/simonw/llm) + [repomix](https://github.com/yamadashy/repomix) + a [promptfoo](https://github.com/promptfoo/promptfoo) test + a cheap model. Wire those four into one script = a genuinely new tool nobody’s built. 😏

Bottom line: don’t _chat_ the days away — _harvest_ them. Save it, make it portable, keep it.

**Rent the brain. Keep the blueprints.**
