### **The Problem We All Know**

You finally have time to watch something great. You open Netflix, Prime, Disney+… and 45 minutes later, you’re rewatching _The Office_ for the 100th time. Sound familiar?

If you’re tired of this cycle, here’s a **step-by-step guide** to finding films and shows you’ll _actually_ love—using smarter tools and strategies.

* * *

### **1. Ditch Default Streaming Algorithms**

Platforms push their own content, not what’s best for _you_. Try these instead:

#### **A. Lumigo Movies** _(My top discovery)_

- **How it works** : An AI Agent that asks:
  - _Your streaming services_ (Netflix, Prime, etc.)
  - _Your mood_ (e.g., _“I’m exhausted—give me something easy”_ or _“I want a mind-blowing thriller”_)
  - _Titles you love_ (to learn your taste)

- **Why it’s great** :
  - No ads or sponsored placements
  - Finds hidden gems
  - Results in 40 seconds

🔗 _Try it: [Lumigo Movies](https://lumigo.ai/movies)_

#### **B. JustWatch**

- Searches **all** platforms at once
- Filter by genre, rating, release year
- _Best for_: Finding _where_ a specific title is streaming

#### **C. Letterboxd**

- Curated lists like _“Underrated Psychological Thrillers”_
- _Best for_: Discovering non-mainstream films

* * *

### **2. Use Your Mood as a Search Filter**

Examples of effective searches:

- _“Movies like John Wick but on Prime Video”_
- _“Rom-coms that aren’t cringey”_
- _“Films for when you’ve had a terrible day”_

**Where to search** :

- **Reddit** : r/MovieSuggestions (ask for niche recs)
- **Google** : _“[Mood] + movies”_ (e.g., _“dark but funny movies”_)

* * *

### **3. Set a Time Limit**

- **The 5-minute rule** : If you can’t decide:
  - Hit _“Surprise Me”_ on Lumigo/JustWatch
  - Pick a random Top 100 list on Letterboxd

JustWatch is convenient because it helps me search for content on all streaming platforms at the same time, but unfortunately there is no system that tracks my tastes to suggest content. Lumigo, on the other hand, seems to do this but at the moment it doesn’t allow you to flag films you’ve already seen. I hope they add this functionality soon.

Doesn’t work for me. Keeps asking me to select at least one genre, when I’ve selected multiple.

Thanks for sharing! I tried their product search in the past and it was very interesting. I’ll try this one tonight for movies too.

I tested [lumigo.tv](https://lumigo.tv) recently and noticed that the code **WELCOME40** still gives **40% off** on both monthly and yearly plans. It applied instantly at checkout for me.

For anyone wondering about the platform itself: the **content quality** is pretty clean, results come fast, and the interface is **simple to use**. I also didn’t hit any stability issues while trying it out, so the experience was solid overall.

If you want to try the discount, just enter **WELCOME40** at checkout and the price should update. No idea how long it’ll stay active, so it might disappear at some point.

If others test it, would be useful to know if it still works.
