The number that actually decides your day
300K/day is the real ceiling — not the million.
A small prompt burns ~50–150K. A medium one ~150–500K.
So free = roughly 2–4 real prompts per day. Long debugging loops eat the whole day in minutes.
Free tokens reset on the 1st of the calendar month. They do not roll over — rollover is a paid-plan feature only.
Claims to ignore
“1M tokens = $1M value” — it’s compute, not cash- “Unlimited free tokens” — the daily cap is hard
- “Free tokens roll over” — free plan, they don’t
- “This site generates free Bolt accounts” — that’s your login, gone
- “Make 20 accounts” — burns the tool, not the limit
🧠 Two things most Bolt posts still get wrong
1. Referrals pay cash, not tokens.
Plenty of guides claim “200K tokens for you, 200K for them, 5M if they upgrade.” That is not the program. Bolt’s actual referral terms:
- Your friend gets 20% off (3 months monthly, or once on annual)
- You earn 15% of what they pay, up to $50 per referral
Nothing at all if they only sign up free — it triggers on a paid subscription
Paid out via Cello, held 30 days in case of refund.
2. The student/teacher discount route looks closed.
The old bolt.new/education-discount page — the one behind every “12 months free via teacher verification” post — now returns 404. Independent pricing trackers listed no student rate as of mid-2026 either. Treat those posts as expired until Bolt puts the page back up.
Stretching the free tier: start from a template instead of asking Bolt to invent a design, edit code directly in the editor (free — costs no tokens), and keep prompts small and specific. Most token burn is Bolt re-reading your project files, so a big project costs more per message regardless of what you ask.
