Can we get a job in Cyber Security without a degree?

I want to have a career in Cyber Security and I think that if I try for a degree then it will waste my time and money because a degree don’t teach us anything useful for this field. so I decided that I will skip the degree and study for Cyber Security Certificates and try CTFs and Bug-Bounties. But then I found that many companies ask for a degree as there minimum requirement. so I am confused now. So is it possible to get a job in this field without a degree?

@1_DEDSEC_1 Get an Degree, Its Must in all over the world, Let say you going abroad in future for job , you need degree for visa stamping, Degree is must, there is much difference between Engineering visa and Labor visa, For example, labor visa wont allow to bring your family with you, where engineering visa have those option. And some countries have criteria that, Engineering candidate can have salary from this to this and Non Degree Canditate must have salary upto this which is too low, Last but not least, Every MNC need Degree even to shortlist your resume, With out degree you wont even get an Mail for single interview in TOP MNC Companies..
So Get an degree dont listen to anyone who can say go for shortcut.

You can get job, you will need to give certification exams. ex CEH, Computia etc. If you have the certification you will get the job which will not waste your time and money. you need to pay to certification exam. the certificates are valid for certain amount of time.

It’s challenging in larger corporations such as INTEL and AMAZON, as they tend to prefer employees with a degree. The reason is mainly to protect their assets (or product) by hiring people with the core education without having to guess if they are qualified or not, you know? Plus it’s also a matter of trust and reliability. They are not going to hire some ‘hacker’ off the street and escort you straight into their main server. That would be insane!

However, past experience can help if that could be backed up with a letter of recommendation or two from a previous employer who had hired you in that particular field. There have been cases where having an MBA isn’t important, and having a college degree is good enough. A basic understanding of current cybersecurity protocols and tools are very important.

Working for the government is different depending on how you got hired in the first place. If you got employed by the government to keep out of prison, then you are not really free to make any move to any type of company, and say goodbye to any privacy or basic freedoms you may had. I should also add that when you are working in cybersecurity for a company in the US, they WILL run a complete background and criminal check on you. Trust me on that.

Some companies are currently looking for people who are more creative than technical, especially in cybersecurity, due to the fact that you are playing into someone’s game of wits. Having a good work ethic is also important, drug free a plus and being a team player is critical in 99.9% of the cases.

Overall, I recommend a degree (or a certificate minimum) to find work and having a degree proves to the company that you put in the work to achieve a degree. If not, then practice makes perfect, if you want to fake it till you make it, then you better be good at it.
