What it is: a free online hack week that Cursor is partnering on. Sign up, and they email you a Cursor Pro code. No student email, no .edu, no school check — it is open to anybody.

Three steps

  1. Sign up for the hack week — free, online, runs October 9–15. It is run by Major League Hacking, the crew behind student hackathons worldwide, and their own page says it is “free for anyone, anywhere”.
  2. Watch your inbox — the Cursor Pro code arrives by email. The challenge page
  3. Install Cursor, redeem the code in Billing, then switch the plan to Pro.

:thinking: The step people skip: redeeming is only half of it. The account has to be switched to Pro in Billing & Invoices, or the credits sit unused.

Incomplete guide. Do not waste your time following these steps expecting a new Cursor Pro code.

October is the month of open source, with Hacktoberfest and MLH Global Hack Week (GHW) running open-source activities and challenges.

During GHW, participants were offered $22 in Cursor credits and Grok Bot benefits to help complete event challenges. But but but… social media promotions and spam misrepresented this limited event perk as a general offer available to everyone, leading to end it soon.

Important points: (After the Latest Update)

  • This was an event-specific perk, not a general student offer.

  • New participants are no longer eligible to claim the credits.

  • Eligibility is limited to existing OLD MLH users who joined events around 10 days earlier.

  • New accounts should not expect to receive a redemption code. Redeeming a code and activating a Pro plan are separate steps.
