Hello everyone,
Please I need a free PC apps that works like Camtasia Audiate which can integrate well with Camtasia Editor for Dynamic caption and voice changer features.
AI-generated summary
What you get: Free desktop workflows to replace Camtasia Audiate for dynamic captioning and voice swapping.
Start here:
- Purfview Whisper — generates word-by-word captions to import into Camtasia.
- Seed-VC — changes voice while preserving timing and pauses.
Also useful:
- Subtitle Edit — transcribes audio and fixes caption timing.
- Audacity — audio cleanup, pitch shifting, and voice effects.
Watch out:
- Keep captions and voice edits on separate tracks with backups to avoid redoing work if timings drift.
Free captions that follow your voice, and a swapped voice — both back inside Camtasia
Camtasia Audiate does two jobs: words in sync with your voice, and a different voice on your recording. Two free apps do both and hand the result back to Camtasia.

same project, same edits
JOB 1 — Captions that light each word as it is spoken
Run the recording through one of these:
Purfview Whisper — portable EXE, one word per caption line
github.com/Purfview/whisper-standalone-win
CaptionSmith — caption styles with word highlight
github.com/ccharafeddine/CaptionSmith
CapForge — animated captions, per-word styling
github.com/FRSname/CapForge
In Camtasia: File → Import → Captions → choose the file.
On 2024 and newer: each word lights up on the track as it is spoken.
Extra power: Camtasia keeps its speech model as a plain file in the install folder. Drop in a bigger Whisper model and its own transcription gets sharper.

JOB 2 — The same take, a new voice
Ten seconds of any voice is enough. Your words, pauses and length stay. Only the voice changes.
Pick one:
Seed-VC — runs on your PC, browser demo included
github.com/Plachtaa/seed-vc ·
huggingface.co/spaces/Plachta/Seed-VC
VCClient — live voice change, file mode included
github.com/w-okada/voice-changer
Istar — one small EXE, plain CPU
github.com/Israleche/Istar-Voice-Changer
Praat — quick pitch and formant change
fon.hum.uva.nl/praat
FakeYou — cloud, thousands of voices, free queue
fakeyou.com
Put it back in the project:
Export the voice track from Camtasia.
Run it through the swapper.
Right-drag the new WAV onto the clip → Replace.
Cuts, effects and captions stay.
Two extras
camtasio — script a Camtasia project and point it at the new voice file
github.com/twardoch/camtasio
Camtasia and Audiate tools — proofread captions in a spreadsheet, get a clean caption file back
github.com/gqmaguirejr/Camtasia_and_Audiate_tools
SynthCut — delete a word in the text, the sound goes with it
github.com/Relo-video/SynthCut
Start: Purfview + Seed-VC. One sitting. Both jobs done. $0.
two of Audiate’s jobs, five free apps that do them
Audiate does two jobs — words that follow your voice, and a voice that is not yours. Neither job needs a subscription. These are the apps I use on a plain Windows PC, and what each one is actually for.
| the app | its job in this build | where to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Subtitle Edit | speech to captions, then fix the words and timing — Whisper is built in | nikse.dk/subtitleedit |
| Audacity | clean the voice, then change its pitch and speed | audacityteam.org |
| Voicemod | change the voice while you speak | voicemod.net |
| Camtasia | import the captions, style them, export the video | techsmith.com/camtasia |
| DaVinci Resolve | the heavier motion, grading and finishing work | blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve |
The one thing the paid app keeps: edit a word in its transcript and the timeline moves with it.
Everything else on the list — captions, timing, audio cleanup, the voice, the render — the five above cover.
The run, in order
- Record in Camtasia
- Clean the voice in Audacity, export WAV
- Subtitle Edit → transcribe → fix → export SRT
- Camtasia → import the SRT → style and animate
- Preview once from the top, then export
The settings that make it look professional
Captions that read well
- Two lines maximum, about a second minimum on screen
- Break at natural pauses, never leave one small word alone on a line
- Keep commands, names and numbers exactly as spoken
- Check the first and last minute twice
Camtasia caption style for lessons
- Clean sans-serif in white, with an outline or a dark strip behind it
- Near the bottom, clear of code and slides; yellow only for the word you are pointing at
- Big enough for a phone screen; few animations in technical lessons
Audacity, the short version
- Copy the track before touching it, then: noise reduction only when it is needed → clarity EQ → normalize
- Pitch for a different voice, tempo when the delivery drags; keep both gentle, listen on headphones
- Export WAV and drop it under the video, original track muted, then check sync
Voice recipes
- Deeper: pitch down a touch, a little bass, steady volume, no heavy reverb
- Radio: less low bass, more mids, mild compression
- Robot: distortion plus a short delay or echo
- Telephone: cut the deep bass and the highs, keep the mids
Need word-by-word social captions? CapCut Desktop is the optional extra route for karaoke-style animation.
