🧠 Why bother — 10 sec

You usually need two apps: Internet Download Manager (IDM, paid, $24/yr) for fast HTTP downloads + qBittorrent for torrents. imFile collapses them into one free app that does both, plus magnet links, ed2k, and FTP.

:light_bulb: Multi-threaded download = downloads in 64 lanes at once instead of 1 → way faster than your browser. Same trick IDM charges $24/yr for.

🍿 What you get

Q A
Actually free? Yes, MIT-licensed, 4.2k :star:, 163 forks watching the code
Safe? Open source — code is auditable. Forked from Motrix, actively maintained.
Ads / telemetry? None
Works on Win 7? Yes, all versions of Win 7+. Mac 10.13+. Most Linux distros.
Catch? Owner mentions the Motrix (original project) hadn’t been updated in a while — that’s why this fork exists.
Bypasses ISP throttling? Multi-threading + torrent mode usually slips past most throttling

:magic_wand: Simple-pimple: download your OS build → install → drag any link/magnet/torrent into it → watch it saturate your internet. Cancel IDM, uninstall qBittorrent, one app handles everything.

Two paid + free apps just got replaced by one free one. Welcome to better software.

is it safe ?

I am using it without any issue. This app replaces my Xtreme Download Manager. As for Torrent, I would still prefer qBittorrent.

Good concept. But does it integrate with browsers? Most people don’t just use a download manager without browser extensions of it. These are the tools that make the download manager actually useful.

One Thing I didn’t understand. How it can replace IDM if it doesn’t’ have browser extensions neither we can download videos from youtube and other unprotected streaming sites.

@Steve_Beer which version of IDM are you using ? mine version kept getting pop up mentioning its not useable now, help me guide installing and activating the IDM, Thanks

Thanks for sharing. Can this program be used to replace JDownloader? Since Turnstile chatcha comes into play, JDownloader hasn’t been able to resolve it, making it unable to download from many top hosts. I wonder if there are any programs that can replace it.
