how to get free api for claude-opus-5.5 ?

Working on a college project and really want to get my hands on the Claude 5.5 Opus API—it’s a beast. Anyone know a solid way to get access? Thanks in advance!

THE NEWEST CLAUDE, ON THREE DOORS THAT ASK YOU NOTHING :gem_stone: :green_circle: :white_check_mark:

:green_circle: CLOUDFLARE WORKERS AI — 10 000 neurons a day, free

BASE_URL = https://api.cloudflare.com/client/v4/accounts/$CF_ACCOUNT_ID/ai/v1
MODEL    = anthropic/claude-opus-5.5

curl $BASE_URL/messages \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $CLOUDFLARE_API_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"model":"anthropic/claude-opus-5.5","max_tokens":1024,
       "messages":[{"role":"user","content":"hey"}]}'

:gem_stone: AWS BEDROCK — $100 at signup, up to $200

BASE_URL = https://bedrock-mantle.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/anthropic
MODEL    = anthropic.claude-opus-5-5

curl $BASE_URL/v1/messages \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $AWS_BEARER_TOKEN_BEDROCK" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"model":"anthropic.claude-opus-5-5","max_tokens":1024,
       "messages":[{"role":"user","content":"hey"}]}'

:white_check_mark: PUTER — free tier, one script tag

MODEL = anthropic/claude-opus-5-5
puter.ai.chat("hey", { model: "anthropic/claude-opus-5-5" })

why this is rare

Anthropic shipped Opus 5.5 on 22 sep 2026 — $4 / $20 a million, 1M context.
35 companies now sell it. :green_circle: is the one worth knowing: Cloudflare publishes the
exact list of models that need a paid billing method. Seven names. Kimi, GLM, DeepSeek.
Claude is not one of those seven — so the whole Anthropic catalogue rides free.

HOW EACH DOOR OPENS — the exact clicks

:green_circle: Cloudflare — dash.cloudflare.com → Workers & Pages → a Worker ·
API Tokens → Create Token · Account ID on the same page. Free plan, 10 000
neurons every day, reset 00:00 UTC. Body shape is plain Anthropic Messages, so any
SDK that speaks Claude speaks this.

:gem_stone: AWS — aws.amazon.com → Create account → Google / GitHub / Apple,
no card asked, $100 lands on the new project. → Bedrock → Model access → Modify
model access → Submit use case details (that form is the wall everyone hits) →
catalog → Claude Opus 5.5 → Playground → EULA → API keys → Short-term → Generate.
Set a spend limit first, the project pauses at the ceiling.

:white_check_mark: Puter — puter.com → account → Create token → PUTER_AUTH_TOKEN.
Every account starts with a free monthly allowance.

please could you tell me the steps to work this way on hermes - cloudflare

thanks a lot.

this is cool, can i set this up in my hermes agent?

:upside_down_face: The one door that asks for nothing — no key, no card, no form:

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Puter.js — anthropic/claude-opus-5-5 straight in a browser page. The caller pays for their own calls, so you can run a public demo and never see a bill.

That is also the answer to @pei49102 above: stop waiting on the AWS form.

Two clouds that hand you a real key with credit :credit_card:
Vertex gives $300 for 90 days · Foundry gives $200 on a new account. Both carry Opus 5.5.

Check the map before you build :world_map:
modelavailability.com — Opus 5.5 region by region across Bedrock, Foundry and Vertex, updated daily.

Cheaper shelf for this month :books:
34 providers · 635 endpoints · one key — our own board.

The code — Puter in a page, and the Hermes config Mohamed asked for
import { puter } from '@heyputer/puter.js';
const r = await puter.ai.chat("explain vector databases like I'm 15", {
  model: "anthropic/claude-opus-5-5"
});

For Hermes, LibreChat, Open WebUI or the OpenAI SDK — Cloudflare speaks the OpenAI wire format, so it is three lines:

base_url : https://api.cloudflare.com/client/v4/accounts/<ACCOUNT_ID>/ai/v1
api_key  : <CLOUDFLARE_API_TOKEN>
model    : anthropic/claude-opus-5.5

Cloudflare’s model page — 10,000 neurons a day, 1M-token context. Bedrock has an OpenAI-compatible endpoint too.

If you want the key from Vertex or Foundry — the exact steps

Vertex: Opus 5.5 docs → enable the model in Model Garden → claude-opus-5-5 → the $300 trial covers it, card required but not charged.

Foundry: model catalog page → deploy → the $200 new-account credit covers it.

Bedrock: the credits route, not the Activate form that never gets reviewed.

One tip from running a similar college project on free cloud credits: the credits disappear fast if you send full context on every call. Two things stretched mine a lot — turn on prompt caching (Opus 5.5’s long context makes this very effective when your system prompt and reference material barely change), and draft with a cheaper model first, then only send the final pass to Opus. Also set a billing alert at 50% of your credits on day one; the dashboards bury usage and it’s easy to burn through trial credit in a week of debugging. Good luck with the project.
