This sounds like an oxymoron, but you can self-host your cloud storage.
Use Case:
- Automatically upload photos (and remove them to free up storage on your phone).
- Access your files 24/7, regardless of location.
- Secure your files and privacy without exposing them to 3rd parties like Dropbox, Google Drive, or iCloud.
Here’s how:
Installation Steps:
- Install NextCloud - This is the Docker app that will host your files.
- Install Tailscale - This Docker app provides peer-to-peer VPN using Wireguard.
- Install the NextCloud and Tailscale app on your mobile device.
- Sign on to Tailscale.
- Connect the NextCloud app to your Tailscale device hosting the NextCloud Docker instance.
Optional:
- Setup NextCloud app on your phone to automatically upload photos.
- Set up shares in the NextCloud Docker App.
That’s it. After completing all of these, you should have access to all your contents in your NextCloud Docker instance.
Happy learning!
