I need your help with Amazon.

I like creating Amazon accounts for other countries, but it always asks me to verify a phone number. Once the account is created, I remove the number so I can keep using the account, but then it gets blocked. Do you have a solution for this?

Why Amazon Blocks the Account

Amazon’s fraud and risk system tracks account integrity signals. When you register an account, Amazon binds the phone number to your device fingerprint, IP/location data, and identity profile.

When you delete the phone number:

  1. Security Score Drops Below Threshold: Amazon considers an account without an active phone number or non-email primary identifier as “high risk” or incomplete.
  2. Automated Risk Lockdown: The system flags the sudden removal as a sign of account takeover or automated account creation (bot/farm behavior), triggering an automatic account lock.
  3. Cross-Account Linking: If you reuse or attach/detach the same phone number across multiple accounts in different regions, Amazon flags the shared phone history, linking all associated accounts and suspending them for policy violations.

Step-by-Step Practical Solution

Step 1: Stop Deleting the Phone Number

To keep international accounts safe and active, never leave the account without a phone number attached. Instead of removing it, transition the account to a persistent, low-risk verification method.

Step 2: Set Up an Authenticator App (TOTP) First

Before touching any phone settings, add an authenticator app to serve as your main security protocol:

  1. Log into your international Amazon account and go to Your Account > Login & Security.
  2. Find Two-Step Verification (2SV) Settings and click Get Started or Edit.
  3. Select Authenticator App as your preferred method.
  4. Scan the QR code using an app like Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy.
  5. Enter the 6-digit code to verify and save your backup keys.

Step 3: Replace (Don’t Delete) the Number with a Permanent Virtual Number

Since Amazon requires a valid phone number on file as a fallback, replace your primary personal number with a cheap, permanent virtual number rather than leaving the field blank:

  • VoIP / Virtual SIM Providers: Use a dedicated virtual SIM or virtual number service (e.g., Google Voice, Skype Number, or a paid virtual SIM provider like eSIM/TextNow with a locked line).
  • Avoid Free Disposable SMS Sites: Public temporary SMS numbers will fail because Amazon periodically issues security checks or OTP re-verifications. If you lose access to the number, you will get locked out permanently.

Step 4: Use a Single Global Amazon Account (Recommended Alternative)

If your goal is simply buying, browsing, or managing orders across different country domains:

  1. You do not need separate accounts for each Amazon region (e.g., .de, .co.uk, .co.jp).
  2. Amazon uses a unified global single sign-on system for most regional stores.
  3. Log into the target country’s portal (e.g., amazon.de) using the same email and credentials as your main Amazon account. This retains your verified security status without triggering fraud alerts.

If an Account Is Already Blocked

  • Do not create a new account using the same IP, payment card, or phone number immediately, as Amazon will link and suspend the new account automatically.
  • Follow the on-screen Account Recovery / Security Challenge prompt on the login page and submit proof of identity (such as a billing statement or government ID) to request an unban through Amazon Customer Service.

An account opened on a mobile number signs in with that mobile number — the number is the username, so removing it removes the login. That single line is why the account gets blocked. (Providing Your Mobile Phone Number)

Five moves, in this order

  1. Open on email, add the number second. Create with email and password, then add the number under Login & Security. Removing it afterwards costs the account nothing.
  2. Move the account, do not open a new one. Change Your Amazon Account Country carries the same account into another marketplace with its history. Two countries are exempt from transfer: JP and CN.
  3. One real carrier line, kept alive. giffgaff holds a UK number for good with one call, text or bit of data every 6 months. Ultra Mobile PayGo holds a US line for $3/mo.
  4. Authenticator before the phone. Turn on Two-Step Verification with an authenticator app and backup codes first, so more than one factor holds the account.
  5. One number, one account. Amazon ties a mobile number to exactly one account, and a number already in use disables the account holding it. Each country account keeps its own line.

The line has to be a real carrier line. A carrier SIM or an SMS-capable eSIM. VoIP numbers are the class Amazon filters — Google Voice, TextNow and the free SMS sites — and Google Voice codes stopped arriving in Apr 2024. A filtered line sends you to recovery, which asks for a photo of your ID.
