That Onehack post points to an uncensored model; I gave it a quick try, and the performance was truly impressive. GLM 5.3 is already a highly successful model in its own right, so you are essentially using an uncensored version of it though the price does seem a bit high.

I ran an 8B abliterated build through a simple desktop app on a mid-range laptop and it handled long chats fine — no accounts, no rate limits, no sudden policy changes. The tradeoff is quality: it won’t match a 70B or a frontier model on reasoning, so keep your expectations in line with the size. One thing the ladder above doesn’t stress enough: quant choice matters more than people think — a Q4 or Q5 quant of a good 8B beats a Q2 quant of a 30B on weak hardware. Start small, and only scale up if you actually hit the ceiling.
