🏦 Need a Bank Account That Doesn't Use ChexSystems ASAP!

I’m urgently looking for a bank that doesn’t use ChexSystems when opening an account. :bank:

If anyone knows of any reliable banks or credit unions that offer this, please share your recommendations and experiences.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :folded_hands:

I would start with local credit unions and second-chance checking accounts, since many of them do not rely on ChexSystems in the same way as large banks. Ask directly whether ChexSystems is checked, and what happens if there is an old record, before you submit a full application. Also compare monthly fees, minimum balance rules, and whether direct deposit can waive those fees. It helps to bring a valid photo ID and proof of address, and to keep a small opening deposit ready. If one application is declined, ask for the reason in writing so you can fix the specific issue before trying another account.

:classical_building: A city counselor will open the account with you, free. 522 certified accounts sit behind them.

One free professional, dozens of cities

Find your Financial Empowerment Center — a city or county service: free, unlimited sessions, any income or immigration status.

Their list of help includes “opening a safe and affordable bank or credit union account”, and they pull the reports and file the disputes for you.

Read both files first — free

  • ChexSystems — one report every 12 months
  • Early Warning — file disclosure free, deposit score free on 1‑800‑745‑1560

The score tells you which door below opens first.

Tonight, ten minutes

  • :credit_card: Netspend or Green Dot — ID is enough, and each hands you a routing and account number for payroll
  • :mobile_phone: Current — app signup with SSN and ID, no credit check

Today, a real bank

This week, move the entry

  • :money_bag: Settle it — the bank must report the balance as paid in full
  • :postbox: Ask that bank to request removal — ChexSystems keeps a record five years “unless the source requests its removal”
  • :page_facing_up: Dispute the wrong parts — reinvestigated in 30 days (ChexSystems dispute)
  • :office_worker: Ask the branch for manual review — a banker can put a second-chance product up
