The No-Cloud Alternative to Nexar — Same Crash Protection, Zero Account
Most free dashcam apps make you pick one: Nexar protects your footage with cloud backup and crash auto-save, but forces a login and syncs your driving data off your phone. Bare-bones apps stay fully local, but a crash can straight-up overwrite your own evidence before you get to save it.
Droid Dashcam is one of the only ones that does both: crash protection AND zero cloud.
Why it’s actually different (checked against Nexar, AutoBoy, Drive Recorder)
Crash auto-lock, no account needed — a G-shock sensor detects impact and locks that clip so loop-recording can’t overwrite it. Nexar does this too, but only through a cloud account. This does it 100% on-device.
Plate number burned into the video — none of the other apps in this comparison list that as an overlay field. Useful if you ever need to prove which car the footage is from.
Dual-camera on supported phones — road + cabin at once, most competitors are single-camera only.
Actually free — no ads-removal purchase, no premium tier, nothing gated. (Nexar gates storage behind paid tiers; Dash Cam Travel’s “free” is a trial of paid features.)
Honest trade-off: it runs hotter and drains battery faster on long drives than the bare-bones apps, and the settings menu takes more tweaking to dial in. If you want zero-touch simplicity, this isn’t that. If you want control and don’t mind a config pass once, it’s the strongest free option out there.
