A Google certificate with your name on it sounds expensive. Some are genuinely free. Others give you free training but still charge for the exam.
Here’s the route that actually works.

The easiest $0 certificate to start with
Go to Google Skillshop and choose a foundational Google Ads certification. Search, Display, Video, Shopping, Apps, and Measurement are listed there. Study the material, take the assessment, and find your certification in your Skillshop profile after passing.
If advertising is not your thing, explore Google Analytics instead. No Cloud exam voucher is needed for these foundational Skillshop certifications.
The old “11 free exams” claim needs an update. Fundamentals of Digital Marketing now awards a digital badge when you complete its modules. Google says it has no separate final exam and is an award, not the old Digital Garage certificate.

Join GEAR. Google currently offers 35 learning credits per month for hands-on training in Google Skills.
That is a useful freebie if you want to practise in labs. Those learning credits do not pay for a certification exam. 
Where free Cloud exam vouchers actually live

Being a GEAR member alone does not unlock the Get Certified voucher. Check the program requirements before planning around a free exam.
One more “free” claim to watch
Google Career Certificates on Coursera are a different program from Skillshop. Google’s three-month AI Pro offer with enrollment requires a payment method and renews at $19.99/month after the offer unless canceled. It is not a no-card route to a free Cloud exam.
My pick: Start with a foundational Google Ads Search certification if you want a $0 credential. Join GEAR if you want Cloud lab practice. Pursue a Cloud exam voucher only when you meet a program’s eligibility rules.
