Uninstall app, clean your phone with CCleaner, works for Android and Apple
This happens when WhatsApp thinks your number or app is linked to a modified / unofficial WhatsApp, even if you installed from Play Store.
Do this step by step:
-
Backup chats (if possible)
- WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > Chat backup (Google Drive or local).
-
Remove all modified WhatsApp apps
- Uninstall GB WhatsApp, WhatsApp Plus, FM, YoWhatsApp etc. from your phone completely.
-
Uninstall WhatsApp completely
- Long‑press WhatsApp > App info > Uninstall.
-
Clear leftover data
-
Go to Settings > Apps > find any WhatsApp/clone, clear cache and storage, then remove.
-
Restart your phone.
-
-
Install only the official app
-
For Android: open Google Play Store, search “WhatsApp Messenger” by “WhatsApp LLC” and install.
-
If Play Store is blocked or not working (common on some Huawei devices), download from the official website: https://www.whatsapp.com/download and install the APK.
-
-
Register your number again
- Open WhatsApp, enter your phone number, verify with SMS or call, then restore backup if asked.
-
If you STILL get “Unofficial WhatsApp / Need official WhatsApp”
-
Open WhatsApp > Settings > Help > Contact us.
-
Write something like: “I’m getting ‘You need the official WhatsApp to use this account’ even though I’m using the official app from Play Store. Please review and restore access for my number.
-
Attach a screenshot of the error. Wait 24–72 hours for their reply.
-
One more important thing: if your phone has a custom ROM / rooted / Play Store says “Device not certified”, this error can keep coming. In that case you usually need to go back to official firmware or a certified ROM before WhatsApp will fully trust your device.
If you haven’t solved this:
- Backup your data somewhere (go to settings>backup>and choose an email)> If you are using newer android phone, connect your phone to a laptop> Click your phone and find a folder called Android> data>copy the whole folder called WhatsApp to somewhere safe on the laptop.
- If no backup needed or already done the backup:
- Are you rooted? If not rooted> uninstall whatsapp>check settings for OEM unlock and turn this off>clear playstore cache adn restart your phone> reinstall whatsapp from Playstore and login again.
That “Unofficial Whatsapp Account …. Download Official Whatsapp” error pops up when you’re using a modded version ![]()
WhatsApp blocks them now , (i had same issues…).
Just:
-
Uninstall the modded app completely
-
Download the official WhatsApp from Play Store
-
Install and try logging in again
Might need to wait a few hours or 1 day if it got flagged.
This happens when WhatsApp detects a modified or outdated version. It’s not a ban — it’s a version check. Here’s the fix:
Step 1 — Back up your chats first
WhatsApp → Settings → Chats → Chat backup → hit “Back up.” Don’t skip this.
→ Official backup guide
Step 2 — Uninstall WhatsApp completely
Delete the app. Go to your phone’s Settings → Apps → WhatsApp → Clear cache and data, then uninstall.
Step 3 — Reinstall from the official source only
| Platform | Link |
|---|---|
| Android | Google Play Store |
| iPhone | Apple App Store |
| Direct download | whatsapp.com/download |
Step 4 — Log in and restore
Open the fresh install → enter your number → verify → restore from backup when prompted. Everything comes back.
Step 5 — Still seeing it?
Tap “Request review” inside the app → restart your phone → try again. Usually clears in minutes.
→ About temporarily banned accounts
Do’s and Don’ts
| Back up before uninstalling | Skip the backup and lose your chats |
| Only download from Play Store / App Store / whatsapp.com | Download from random APK sites |
| Set your phone’s date/time to automatic | Keep force-closing the old app hoping it fixes itself |
| Turn on two-step verification after you’re back in | Ignore the “Request review” button if the error persists |
You should be back in your chats within 5-10 minutes.
Quick truth first: “Unofficial WhatsApp Account” is not a ban and not a bug — it’s WhatsApp’s mod-detector spotting a GB/FM/Yo/Plus build. The thread’s “reinstall official” is right, but it skips the two things that actually matter to you: your chats aren’t lost, and everything you liked about the mod is now built into official. Do it in this order ![]()
Rescue your chats BEFORE you uninstall (the step everyone skips)
Official WhatsApp reads Android/media/com.whatsapp/ — it cannot see the mod’s folder (Android/media/com.gbwhatsapp/GBWhatsApp/). So a plain reinstall = history gone. Two-minute insurance, done inside the mod first:
Export the important ones as plain text → open a chat → ⋮ → More → Export chat → Include media → save to Drive/Files. This survives any ban, key, or crypt problem — it’s your parachute. → how
📦 Move the whole chat database mod → official (no root) — full steps
Same phone number the entire time:
- In the mod: Settings → Chats → Chat backup (make a fresh local backup).
- With any file manager, copy the folder
…/Android/media/com.gbwhatsapp/GBWhatsApp/(hasDatabases/+Media/) somewhere safe. (This path needs no root;Android/datawould.) - Uninstall the mod → choose delete files (stale DBs are the #1 restore-killer).
- Install official WhatsApp, open it, don’t type your number yet.
- Copy your saved
Databases/+Media/into…/Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/. - In
Databases/, rename the newestmsgstore-2026-….db.crypt14to exactlymsgstore.db.crypt14and delete every other backup file there. → restore rules - Enter your number → verify → tap Restore.
Honest catch: newer crypt15 mod backups are locked to a key file in private storage (root only), so this can fail — that’s exactly why you did the plain-text Export above. Salvage route on a PC: decrypt with wa-crypt-tools → read/export with msgstore-viewer.
Get the mod’s features — on official, no ban risk (so you never go back)
Everything you switched to a mod for is native now:
Two accounts on one phone → Settings → arrow by your name → Add account (needs a 2nd SIM/eSIM). (the #1 reason people mod — now built in) → ref
Hide “online” + last seen + blue ticks → Settings → Privacy → Last seen and online / Read receipts. → ref
Lock + fully hide chats → long-press a chat → Lock → set a Secret Code so the locked folder vanishes from the list. → ref
Same account on a 2nd phone/tablet (up to 4 devices) → Settings → Linked devices → Link with QR. → ref
Auto-reply / greeting / away / quick replies → free WhatsApp Business (official, keeps your number). → how
A clone without a mod → Samsung Dual Messenger, or Insular + Shizuku, or Android 15 Private Space.
Installed official and it STILL says “Unofficial”?
A hidden mod clone is still alive — the usual culprit. Kill every copy: Samsung Dual Messenger / Secure Folder / a 2nd User profile / Xiaomi Dual Apps / any Parallel Space. As long as one clone runs the mod, the flag stays.
Old official build throws a near-identical nag → Play Store → Update (not just Open). → ref
Wrong clock silently blocks login/OTP → Settings → Automatic date & time → reboot.
Don’t reopen the mod “just to check” — it re-detects and can stretch a temporary ban into a permanent one. If you see “can’t use WhatsApp… request a review,” tap Request a Review inside the official app (one round, ~24h). → ban FAQ
Rooted / custom-ROM / cheap import? It can fail Play Integrity → get in via WhatsApp Web / a linked device meanwhile. → ref
⚠️ Why the ban screen is actually doing you a favor — modded WhatsApp is spyware
These aren’t just “unofficial” — reputable labs caught real payloads inside popular builds:
CanesSpy — trojanized GB/Yo builds ship a hidden service that exfiltrates your contacts every 5 min + can record your mic. Kaspersky blocked 340k+ in one month. → Securelist
Clipper — swaps any crypto address you paste for the attacker’s, and OCRs your screenshots hunting seed phrases. → ESET
Triada in FMWhatsApp — steals your SMS OTPs and signs you up to paid subscriptions. → Securelist
A closed-source mod can read your clipboard, messages and gallery — the official app’s sandbox is exactly what you’d be throwing away. WhatsApp’s own stance.
The mod didn’t give you more — it gave someone else your messages. Official already does the tricks; take those, leave the passenger.
