Uninstall app, clean your phone with CCleaner, works for Android and Apple
This happens when WhatsApp thinks your number or app is linked to a modified / unofficial WhatsApp, even if you installed from Play Store.
Do this step by step:
-
Backup chats (if possible)
- WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > Chat backup (Google Drive or local).
-
Remove all modified WhatsApp apps
- Uninstall GB WhatsApp, WhatsApp Plus, FM, YoWhatsApp etc. from your phone completely.
-
Uninstall WhatsApp completely
- Long‑press WhatsApp > App info > Uninstall.
-
Clear leftover data
-
Go to Settings > Apps > find any WhatsApp/clone, clear cache and storage, then remove.
-
Restart your phone.
-
-
Install only the official app
-
For Android: open Google Play Store, search “WhatsApp Messenger” by “WhatsApp LLC” and install.
-
If Play Store is blocked or not working (common on some Huawei devices), download from the official website: https://www.whatsapp.com/download and install the APK.
-
-
Register your number again
- Open WhatsApp, enter your phone number, verify with SMS or call, then restore backup if asked.
-
If you STILL get “Unofficial WhatsApp / Need official WhatsApp”
-
Open WhatsApp > Settings > Help > Contact us.
-
Write something like: “I’m getting ‘You need the official WhatsApp to use this account’ even though I’m using the official app from Play Store. Please review and restore access for my number.
-
Attach a screenshot of the error. Wait 24–72 hours for their reply.
-
One more important thing: if your phone has a custom ROM / rooted / Play Store says “Device not certified”, this error can keep coming. In that case you usually need to go back to official firmware or a certified ROM before WhatsApp will fully trust your device.
If you haven’t solved this:
- Backup your data somewhere (go to settings>backup>and choose an email)> If you are using newer android phone, connect your phone to a laptop> Click your phone and find a folder called Android> data>copy the whole folder called WhatsApp to somewhere safe on the laptop.
- If no backup needed or already done the backup:
- Are you rooted? If not rooted> uninstall whatsapp>check settings for OEM unlock and turn this off>clear playstore cache adn restart your phone> reinstall whatsapp from Playstore and login again.
That “Unofficial Whatsapp Account …. Download Official Whatsapp” error pops up when you’re using a modded version ![]()
WhatsApp blocks them now , (i had same issues…).
Just:
-
Uninstall the modded app completely
-
Download the official WhatsApp from Play Store
-
Install and try logging in again
Might need to wait a few hours or 1 day if it got flagged.
This happens when WhatsApp detects a modified or outdated version. It’s not a ban — it’s a version check. Here’s the fix:
Step 1 — Back up your chats first
WhatsApp → Settings → Chats → Chat backup → hit “Back up.” Don’t skip this.
→ Official backup guide
Step 2 — Uninstall WhatsApp completely
Delete the app. Go to your phone’s Settings → Apps → WhatsApp → Clear cache and data, then uninstall.
Step 3 — Reinstall from the official source only
| Platform | Link |
|---|---|
| Android | Google Play Store |
| iPhone | Apple App Store |
| Direct download | whatsapp.com/download |
Step 4 — Log in and restore
Open the fresh install → enter your number → verify → restore from backup when prompted. Everything comes back.
Step 5 — Still seeing it?
Tap “Request review” inside the app → restart your phone → try again. Usually clears in minutes.
→ About temporarily banned accounts
Do’s and Don’ts
| Back up before uninstalling | Skip the backup and lose your chats |
| Only download from Play Store / App Store / whatsapp.com | Download from random APK sites |
| Set your phone’s date/time to automatic | Keep force-closing the old app hoping it fixes itself |
| Turn on two-step verification after you’re back in | Ignore the “Request review” button if the error persists |
You should be back in your chats within 5-10 minutes.
