🩹 Morphe: no more ads in YouTube, YT Music and Reddit β€” 10 minutes, one tap, your phone

AI-generated summary

:bullseye: What you get: An open-source Android tool that patches apps on-device to remove ads, restore dislikes, and skip sponsored segments.

:white_check_mark: Start here:

  • Morphe β€” patches installed apps like YouTube, YouTube Music, and Reddit without requiring root access.
  • microG β€” optional helper app required if you need Google account sign-in on patched builds.

:toolbox: Also useful:

  • Morphe Desktop β€” patches target apps directly from a computer.
  • Shizuku β€” automates silent updates to bypass manual installation prompts.

:warning: Watch out: Use a secondary Google account to avoid locking primary credentials, and never download pre-patched files from third-party sites.

:adhesive_bandage: It is one tap. The only thing that ever really goes wrong is the Google sign-in.

Morphe takes the YouTube app already on your phone and rebuilds it without the ads.

Ten minutes, one tap, nothing leaves the device, no root (admin power over the phone), no account.

What you get back

  • no ads in the feed or in the videos
  • sponsored bits skip themselves
  • dislike counts come back
  • Shorts hidden, if you want them gone
  • a real black theme, easier on the eyes

The ten minutes

  1. morphe.software β€” install it. Android only, works from version 8.0.
  2. Open it and tap YouTube. YouTube Music and Reddit sit right next to it.
  3. Tap Patch. Simple mode is the default β€” nothing to set up, it picks the good options.
  4. It asks for the app’s install file (APK) β€” say yes. It opens the exact right version, then waits.
  5. Install when it finishes. Android asks once to allow installs from Morphe β€” normal, one time.

If Google sign-in fails, that is the one real snag: the rebuilt app needs a little helper called microG to hold your Google account.

It points you at the right download the moment you open it. Install that first, sign in once, done.

🩹 When it misbehaves β€” four answers that fix almost everything

It asks for a version you do not have. Take the version it names, not the newest on the store.

Patches are written against one build. The newest sometimes carries half-finished tests Google is still rolling out β€” that is what β€œweird layout” reports are.

Google Play keeps replacing your build. Play still owns the original app.

Settings β†’ Installation fixes it: Shizuku installs quietly, or Root mount on a rooted phone (then install the original as well, the rebuilt one mounts over it).

A new YouTube update arrives. Morphe shows an Update badge. Repatch, install over the top, your app data stays.

Something misbehaves inside the app. Turn on Settings β†’ Morphe β†’ Miscellaneous β†’ Debug logging, grab the log at debug.morphe.software, search the issues first, then post yours.

A report with a log is a patch fixed for everyone.

Never take a β€œpre-patched YouTube APK” from a download site β€” a stranger’s build, nothing to inspect. Morphe’s own FAQ says the same. Your own ten minutes are the only copy you can trust.

Ten minutes once. The ads do not come back on their own.

Good heads-up on the Google sign-in being the fragile part. For anything sideloaded like this I would use a secondary Google account rather than my main one, just in case a sign-in hiccup locks something I actually care about. Two other things worth checking after install: turn off battery optimization for the app so background playback does not get killed overnight, and expect the setup to need a redo after a big YouTube app update. If it survives a week of daily use without the sign-in breaking, that is the real test.
