Hello onehackers!
I would like to take suggestions from you. One of my close friends got an admit to the Master of Science program in mechanical engineering at Boston University. How does the course in BU compare to other similarly ranked universities? The tuition fee is comparatively higher; is it worth spending that much amount? ( yearly 56000 USD) Based on merit, he was also given a 25% scholarship in tuition fees. How are the teaching/ research assistance opportunities and other jobs on/ off campus? How is the job market after graduation? With him being a mechanical graduate, there aren’t many sources to refer to for the above information. If you are alumni or a current student or acquaintance with someone, kindly ping me. This would help him much. Thank you for your time.
When it comes to University, as a college student myself may I suggest the following thoughts:
-
What is your friends career choice? (are those jobs in high demand - look at job forecasts)
-
Do you plan on interacting with the students? If so what clubs are available there, and what do the alumni of those clubs end up doing with there life?
-
Who teaches there? (this is important and crucial to research)…You want to know what reputation the professors have at that school and if they are teaching you “old age” vs. “new age”…
-
What connections do those professors have? (if the professors have a vast network, then attending there classes is one step closer to getting into the “boys club” (regardless if it’s a female or male professor…so sad I have to be political correct…it’s only going to get worse)
