Hello everyone,
I am a graduate holding a BSc in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Kenyatta University. Having gathered solid, hands-on experience in top-tier environments, I am now actively planning my next big step. I would deeply appreciate genuine guidance from professionals and academics who have successfully carved out paths abroad.
My Current Situation & Background
- Education: BSc in Hospitality and Tourism Management (Kenyatta University).
- Professional Experience: Completed a rigorous management internship at the Weston Hotel (Nairobi) across multiple departments (front office, food service), followed by over two years as a Meal Server/Hospitality professional at The Aga Khan Hospital (Kisumu).
- Languages & Skills: Fully bilingual in English and Kiswahili, with foundational knowledge of French and German. Strong proficiency in digital productivity tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Target Directions: Exploring advanced Post-Graduate studies (Master’s/Postgrad Diplomas with strong industry placement), Cruise Line roles, or direct hospitality leadership pathways abroad.
- Primary Focus: Professional upskilling, strong income potential, and long-term career stability.
My Main Goal
I am looking to move abroad (with a preference for regions with established hospitality markets or cruise line networks) for either:
- A top-tier Applied Master’s or Postgraduate program that features mandatory paid internships, luxury resort partnerships, and direct industry exposure.
- A direct entry point into international hospitality or cruise line careers that offer clear pathways to management.
Long-term, my goal is to build a highly stable, globally recognized career and potentially settle abroad.
What I’m Specifically Looking For
I am not looking for a quick certificate or a generic agency contract. I am searching for genuine, high-growth pathways that offer:
- Strong Industry Connections: Networks tied to global luxury hotel chains, eco-tourism boards, or major cruise lines.
- Hands-on/Operational Growth: Programs or roles that value cross-departmental experience (Front Office, F&B, Guest Relations) and train for supervisory levels.
- Financial Viability: Programs that offer work-study options, graduate assistantships, or clear, immediate pathways to earning post-graduation.
- Legitimate Recruitment: Bypassing high-fee consultancies to find authentic, merit-based hiring partners and university recruiters.
What I Need Help With
I would be incredibly grateful for insights on:
- Best Destinations: Which countries (e.g., Canada, Switzerland, Middle East, Europe) currently offer the best post-study work visas or direct employment visas for hospitality professionals with a degree and solid experience?
- Cruise Line vs. Land-Based: For someone with my background (Aga Khan Hospital & Weston Hotel experience), is transitioning via cruise line recruitment partners more realistic and financially rewarding than the academic route?
- Scholarships & Funding: Are there specific universities known for granting graduate assistantships or stipends to international hospitality students?
- Uplifting My Profile: What specific global certifications (e.g., advanced food safety, revenue management, or specialized language certifications) should I target next to significantly boost my competitive edge?
I am looking for raw, real experiences from people who have actually walked this path, rather than generic consultancy-driven advice.
Thank you so much for your time, guidance, and mentorship!
